Who is the Sea Beast of Revelation 13?

We now come to the antichrist sea beast of Revelation 13. We've identified the little horn of Daniel 7 as being the Roman Catholic Church, and now we need to identify this beast in Revelation 13. We have already found out from

Daniel 7 that a beast in Bible prophecy represents a kingdom. So what kingdom is this sea beast of Revelation 13? Is this beast the Roman Catholic Church? Well, you'll see that the beast has a number of characteristics that

are identical to the little horn power, which we identified as the Papal Church of Rome.

Revelation 13:1 .....'And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of

blasphemy.'

The first thing we see is that the beast is rising out of the sea. As we learned in a previous study, water in Bible prophecy is a symbol for peoples and nations (Rev. 17:15). So the beast (kingdom) rises up out of a largely

populated area. Now in the study on the antichrist little horn, we learned from history that when the nation of Rome fell, it split into the ten kingdoms of Europe, represented by the ten horns on the terrible beast in Daniel 7.

Notice that this beast in Revelation 13 also has ten horns, but this time with crowns. So this kingdom symbolized by the sea beast rises up to power in the populated area of Europe, amongst the nations of Europe. The Roman

Catholic Church as we know, rose to power from Rome, amongst the nations of Europe.

What are the heads and horns on the beast? These are the kings and nations that have given their power (support) to the beast. Think about it, could the Roman Catholic Church conquer and rule the world themselves? Of

course not. They would need the support of the nations around them. And this is what the heads and horns represent on the beast. They are the kings and kingdoms that the beast is built upon and draws it's power from. These

kingdoms give their power to the beast, hence the crowns on the horns. They are kingly crowns.

The seven heads are also a symbol of mountains, as revealed in Revelation 17:9. The beast being described by the angel in Revelation 17 is the same as the sea beast in Revelation 13. So can the seven

mountains be applied to the Roman Catholic Church? Yes. The city of Rome is where the Vatican is based and Rome has been known as the city of "seven hills".

In Revelation 13:2 it says that this beast is like a leopard, with feet of a bear and a mouth like a lion. So this beast, the Papal church of Rome is basically an amalgamation of the kingdoms that went before it, ie, Babylon (lion),

Greece (leopard) and Medo Persia (bear). All the customs, paganism and worldly ways of these previous kingdoms, are now rolled into one - this beast of Revelation 13. And the Roman Catholic Church, as everyone knows is

full of paganism.

The Sea Beast and the Little Horn

You will now see in the remaining description of the sea beast of Revelation 13, that it is the exact same kingdom as the little horn of Daniel 7. Is the Roman Catholic Church a kingdom? No, it's a church, described in the Bible

as the whore of Babylon, which we will study later. But when we talk about it being a kingdom, we are talking about the Papacy, which is the government of the Roman Catholic Church based at the vatican, and the vatican is a

kingdom. We usually say Roman Catholic Church just for easy identification, as many people may not know what the Papacy is.

Revelation 13:5 .....'And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months'

So the beast is given a mouth speaking great things against God. Does that sound familiar? Yes, the little horn was "like a man, speaking great things against the Most High God" (Daniel 7:8,25). And as we learned, the

Roman Catholic Church speak great blasphemies against God and Christ Jesus, saying that the pope is EQUAL to them. It says above that this beast was given power to continue for 42 months, which is 1260 days. Now using

the day for a year principle which Bible prophecy supports, we see that the sea beast of Revelation 13 is given power to continue for 1260 years. The little horn was also given power to continue for this amount of time. (Daniel

7:25; A time, times and dividing of time is 1260 prophetic days, or 1260 literal years). How long did the Roman Catholic Church have power over the nations? 1260 years exactly! They gained full power in 538AD, when the

Roman army under Belisarius, routed the last of the tribes that opposed the Papal Church, the Ostrogoths.

Driven from their place, the Ostrogoths, under Witiges, set a seige upon the city in 537, which they maintained an entire year. When a second armed force arrived against them in 538, they could hold out no longer, and in

March of that year they retreated. Although two years later they attempted to regain control of Rome, they were unsuccessful. With their withdrawal from the city in 538, their power in Rome had ended. (For documentation on

So if the Roman Catholic Church had power for 1260 years from 538AD, then it means power was taken from them in the year 1798. Did this happen? Of course! Bible prophecy is always exactly accurate. In 1798, Napoleon

ordered his french army into Rome to take control from the pope. And the Roman Catholic Church lost it's power. This event was actually prophesied in Revelation 13:3, where John says that one of the heads of the beast was

wounded to death. This is pointing to the pope being taken captive by the French and the Papacy losing it's power.

"When, in 1797, Pope Pius VI fell grievously ill, Napoleon gave orders that in the event of his death no successor should be elected to his office, and that the Papacy should be discontinued. But the Pope recovered; the peace

was soon broken; Berthier entered Rome on 10th February 1798, and proclaimed a Republic. The aged Pontiff refused to violate his oath by recognizing it, and was hurried from prison to prison into France. Broken with fatigue

and sorrows, he died . . . [in] August 1799, in the French fortress of Valence, aged 82 years. No wonder that half Europe thought Napoleon's veto would be obeyed, and that with the Pope the Papacy was dead." --Joseph

But then in the same verse John says that the wound would be healed. Was power restored to the Papacy? Yes, on February 11, 1929, Mussolini and Cardinal Gasparri signed a treaty which restored the "Holy See" as

sovereign of Vatican state. And now the wound is healing and the Vatican is gaining more and more support (power) all the time.

This time period of 1260 years is vital to identifying the antichrist, and God gives us plenty of scripture supporting this time frame, so that we are able to accurately identify the antichrist power. There are 7 passages of scripture

that describe the antichrist continuing for 1260 days (literal years), which applies to the little horn and the sea beast of Revelation 13. These Bible verses are found in Daniel 7:25; Daniel 12:7; Revelation 11:2; Revelation 11:3;

Revelation 12:6; Revelation 12:14; Revelation 13:5. And this time frame can only be matched to the Roman Catholic Church.

Where does the Beast get it's Power?

Revelation 13:2 .....'and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.'

In Revelation 12, the dragon is revealed as being Satan. So ultimately the sea beast of Revelation 13 receives it's power from Satan. And Satan uses the nations of the world to support the beast, to enforce it's "authority" upon

the people of the world. Now in Revelation 13:4 it says that the world worshipped the dragon, because if they worship the beast, which they do, then ultimately they are worshipping Satan. This is why it is so important to find

out the truth about the antichrist, because if you follow him, you will be basically serving Satan.

We also find in Revelation 13:4, that the people who worship the beast, say "who is like unto the beast, who is able to make war with him?". This fits with the Roman Catholic Church, because they have support from all the

countries around the earth. Virtually every country in the world have a representative in the Vatican. It is a religious power AND a political power. Who is like it? And who can make war with it, when ALL the world supports it?

Just look at what happened at John Paul II funeral. Millions gathered in Rome for it, and many kings, presidents and prime ministers attended the funeral, in support of the Catholic Church. We are also now seeing a number of

world leaders converting to Roman Catholicism. The vatican is gaining strength, and it will soon have the "authority" and power again, like it did between 538AD - 1798, to force the world to obey it.

The papacy is so influential and powerful that nearly every major country consults her before making major policy moves. Her "large diplomatic corps maintains relations with more than 100 nations." (U.S.

News and World Report, October 30, 1978, p. 24)

**In 2011 the Vatican had diplomatic relations with 178 countries. Less than 20 left for FULL union with the whole world!

"On June 7, 1982, former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II met for 50 minutes at the Vatican and structured a plan to eliminate communism. The United States shipped tons of modern

communication equipment to Poland (the starting place) to help spread necessary information to the masses." (The Holy Alliance, Time, February 1992, pp. 28, 31, 35)

Who was it that toppled Communist Russia? It was the Roman Catholic Church, with the might of America behind it. And right there you have the sea beast (Papacy - Catholic Church) and the earth beast

(America) of Revelation 13!

More Similarities Between Beast and Little Horn

Revelation 13:7 .....'And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.'

So the sea beast of Revelation 13 makes war with the saints of God and overcomes them. This is exactly what the little horn of Daniel 7 did. And this is also exactly what the Roman Catholic Church did during the 1260 years

of Power that she had. Tens of millions of Christians were persecuted and murdered at the order of the Papal Church of Rome. Why? Because these godly people chose to serve God instead of the pope. Many were killed for

just owning a copy of the Bible. And this will happen again one day soon, when the Papacy receives power from the world nations to enact her "authority" upon the people of the world again. The image of the beast will then

cause the world to receive the mark of the beast (mark of the Roman Catholic Church).

Just as the little horn of Daniel 7 perfectly matched the Roman Catholic Church, the sea beast of Revelation 13 also matches the Roman Catholic Church perfectly. It is the same power. This beast is rising to power again, and

will use the nations of the world to enforce it's laws upon mankind. Please ask God to give you guidance on this, and for you to be able to stand up for His truth, no matter what happens.
