Didn't Jesus preach to the spirits in prison? 1 Peter 3:19
I've heard may say this verse shows people are in hell and Christ went to preach to them on his death. This is a terrible interpretation of this verse.
As we as seen GOD is very clear when you die you sleep saved and unsaved alike. I will create another page to deal with the hell truth.
If we continue reading the bible gives us a clue to what this verse means.
1Pe 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made
alive in the spirit;
This verse sets up by how if spoke to the peoples of the world in Noah's day.
1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
Many stop here a create a doctrine about people suffering in hell but again that is wrong.
Verse 3:20 tells us what he is referring to the prison is earth and the spirits were the disobedient that lived in the days of Noah.
1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few,
that is, eight souls were saved by water.
1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience
toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
Does the bible call this earth a prison? Yes
Ps 142:7 Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
Lu 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to
preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Death Truth - What does the bible say?
Many churches teach at death you go straight to heaven to be with loved ones. Many churches quote several scriptures for this although incorrectly. Many even go as far
to say we already have an immortal spirit. What's important is not what I have to say but what the bible says. And you cannot latch on to one quote to justify your beliefs.
The bible must be viewed in its entirety so that we do not create contradictions to support our wanted beliefs.
